The reason I know is because the resident Mason here, junionthepipeline, told me on Reddit that Pike was unimportant to Masons, then a week later was crying on the freemason sub about the statue's destruction.
So the Pike statue was made by the same dude that made the Daniel Webster statue.
Of course, there's the famous short story The Devil and Daniel Webster.
Now, Daniel Webster on looks alone was probably a bad guy. A historian quoted on his wiki says, 'that "Webster was a thoroughgoing elitist—and he reveled in it."'
I mean, come on now. TBH I don't even know all the symbolism there (what are those fleur-de-lis things on the lion), but it certainly doesn't seem like the crest of a good guy.
"In late 1992, members of the LaRouche movement, including civil rights activist and Lyndon LaRouche's vice-presidential candidate James Bevel, began a series of protests demanding the memorial be removed, citing Pike's alleged links with the KKK. During one such event, LaRouche supporters draped Pike's statue with a KKK pointed hat and gown. Bevel stated: "One way or the other, this statue is coming down. Either the statue will be taken down gracefully, or it will be torn down."
Actually, the Pike statue WAS destroyed during the BLM riots.

That one gave me a good laugh.
Here's another one...

Now, check out the coat of arms for Webster.

What's the word for that...collateral damage...
:)
Perhaps a pivotal moment in DC.
I guess LaRouche was correct after all...

Oh wow, what an interesting find. I trust you to. I wouldn't doubt that happening.

He actually lit it from the statue...
If I were there, I might've done the same. :)
Dude that did it lit the statue on fire then lit his cigarette with the torch. Classic. I may have to search and see if i can find a video.
