Firefox is turning into a BITCH of elites lately aswell... I'm using it but I'm aware of the situation... There's tons of shitty browsers out there we can use anyway ..

"The 2007 release of the anti-phishing protection in Firefox 2 in particular raised considerable controversy:[51] Anti-phishing protection, enabled by default, is based on a list updated twice hourly from Google's servers.[52] The browser also sends a cookie with each update request.[53] Internet privacy advocacy groups have expressed concerns surrounding Google's possible uses for this data, especially since Firefox's privacy policy states that Google may share (non-personally identifying) information gathered through safe browsing with third parties, including business partners.[54]

Following Google CEO Eric Schmidt's comments in December 2009 regarding privacy during a CNBC show,[55] Asa Dotzler, Mozilla's director of community development suggested that users use the Bing search engine instead of Google search.[56] Google also promoted Firefox through YouTube until the release of Google Chrome. "

So everyone has to insta-upgrade . . to the version that rejects the new Russian TL cert authority.

The power of big tech is REALLY on display now . . . and the fat arsed laziness of the Russians (and Chinese) who just couldn't tear themselves away from vodka drinking long enough to make - or open source edit up - a viable browser alternative.

Both browsers, Chrome and Firefox are opensorce. There is "Russian" Yandex browser based on Chrome codebase if you wish. It will just send telemetry to Yandex, and not to Google. China also have their own browser, forgot the name, with lion as mascot.

Really, codebase of Crome and Firefox became too big and complex, that it does not matter if they are opensourced or not. Both have enormous amount of different garbage code thoroughly mixed up with bits of useful one. It is nearly impossible for enthusiasts to clean all that shit up and continue to support that codebase free of all that big brother shit. That is why all that PolarFox'es, Ungoogled Cromiums and other projects of "probeless" browsers are always few versions back.

There exists one shitless and probeless open-source browser with decent and simple source code suitable for understanding and modification - NetSurf. It works and already useful for many things, but it is still a lot of work to be done to implement all that stupid Web2.0 bells and whistles modern webmonkeys like to use to build modern sites.

SlimBrowser is just an envelope for a Microsoft Internet Explorer Trident engine. So, it is basically old IE with new face. With all telemetry and probes from IE.
