If by "automated trucking" you mean "kangaroo drawn sleighs" then yea you have a point. But unfortunately for Australia, they haven't innovated anything since the boomerang. They don't have cyber billionaires competing for quickly evaporating market space with the means to do so. There is no Australian Tesla.
I own a trucking company, not in America. The industry is so far away from being autonomous its crazy. Another 50 years maybe but certain vocational applications can never be autonomous. That one Nikola truck turned out to be a big stock market scam.
So any smart enough person will be able to reroute the truck with needed goods to specific place and get that goods for free. Nice.
Any technology could be used in any way, not only in intendent one. More technology is more opportunities.
PS: Unfortunately, there are no any "self-driving" cars that could really "self-drive" not only in perfect conditions. Even simpliest attempts to really use "self-driving" for something useful in real conditions too often ends like that - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIc45aELN6Q
Based on that logic, Australia should have automated trucking by now?

I'd bet they could contract Tesla for trucks if they wanted...
Also aus has a lot of flat straight land in the middle which makes for easy automated driving.
You Australian m8?
Are you asking if I'd like to throw another shrimp on the barbie mate?
Oy toss me a tori bitter you bogan cunt.
...no, I'm not from the land down under

Who do you think is behind mandates in that area.

Maybe though I think there’s a lot of legal issues that need to be sorted before autonomous can take off.
hopefully they dont use tesla technology
Because it runs over blacks?
if it doesn't run over pedestrians, then it's trivially easy to stop and steal. Autonomous trucking is a pipe dream.
