I'm thinking the whole schooling system reeks of creating obedient servants of society. Even in times past. Would be better to teach people to think, be self sufficient and create food. Anything better than sitting at desks being trained to endure extreme boredom. I think it takes 12 to 13 years of fighting every urge of natural human instinct in your body to accept that life isn't supposed to be as you wanted it to. Then you're ready to go into the "real world"
If you want to go back 100 years, public schools were created by the Rockefeller family. They were designed to take children away from their parents after harvest season so they could be taught memorization and repetition, the goal was to educate children enough to work in industrial factories. They were never designed to produce entrepreneurs and leaders, just factory workers and wage earners. This was a two prong attack against rural families to get them to give up living off of the land for hopes of the Big City life and the promise of upward mobility.
Different model of schools the system that became implemented here was based on the Prussian model that was designed for what was described. Schooling in America prior in the time you described was not govt controlled .
I'm not mental, just more educated on the history of modern K-12 schooling in the US. Obviously different forms of school have been around since time immemorial. We are talking about the usurpation of the modern school era of today, not Plato. In the early 20th century both the Rockefeller and Carnegie Foundations were donating large sums of money to education and the social sciences. They supported, in particular, the National Education Association. By way of grants, they spent millions of dollars, money which was used to radically bend the traditionalist education system toward a new system that favored standardized testing over critical thinking, toward “scientific management” in schools. This was part of a calculated plan to make the schooling system benefit corporate America, at the expense of the American school child.
Since America's public school system was decentralized, the foundations had concentrated on influencing schools of education (particularly Columbia, the spawning ground for Deweyism), and on financing the writing of textbooks which were subsequently adopted nationwide. These foundaton-produced textbooks were heavily slanted in favor of socialism. The NEA was directed by way of grants amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars, responsible for the nationwide acceptance of avowed socialist John Dewey's theories of 'progressive' education and permissiveness -the products of which have been marching on our college campuses for the past six decades.
Dumb bish sent her kids to public school thinking shit was sweet. Stop using Public school as a daycare.

Many more private schools / tutors back then. Much less state control.
There is no need for state run schools. Fuck the state.

It's an American (maybe some other countries) phenomenon.
Nobel Laurates, winners, inventors, top-level business people come out of public schools in many countries.
But those public schools do NOT have:
If my kids were in USA, hell no would I put them in a public school!
Public schools only purpose is to generate workers.
You want your kid to be more than a janitor, you'd better be taking an active role in their education.
Home schooled kids still have neighbors ffs, before public schools kids grew up around their neighbors and their cousins.
You seem to think home schooling is like prison solitary confinement..
2-3 hrs studying and your done with school work and are outside playing with the dog.
