It’s because academia is an echo chamber, so among their peers they are considered amazing thinkers and are awarded prizes but since nothing is questioned, their arguments fail when they talk to people who have done real research and have critical thinking skills.
I remember having to read Noam Chomsky’s self important boring ass books in college, so glad I quit that and married a husband with a business to be a mom :)
