What do you mean, that Hillary ran an even more incompetent campaign than Trump did, or something else?
Wikileaks released a 2015 internal strategy document from the Democratic National Committee showing that it was their strategy to promote Donald Trump to turn him into a "pied piper" candidate to divide the Republican base. They are the ones responsible for the massive amount of free mainstream media coverage Trump received for the Republican nomination.

Wikileaks also released emails from the Democratic leadership conspiring to make Bernie Sanders lose the primary. He would have won hands down had they not stolen the primary.

What they did was make 1) Donald Trump win the Republican nomination which energized the base, and 2) Hillary Clinton win the Democratic Nomination--despite being the weaker candidate--which demoralized the base.
Cruz complained about the millions and millions of free advertising that Trump got from all the press (i.e. Democrats) gave him. He wasn't wrong. They did set Trump up to be what they thought would be the worst Republican nominee, but in fact, he may have been the only one that could have pulled out a win in 2016.
This seems to be correct. I heard a rumour that in 2017 Nate Silver simulated Hilary vs Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, or Jeb Bush. Not one of those Republican Party nominees was said not be able to get more than 207(+-3) electoral votes.
You are right about that! They even cheated against him by rigging the voting machines to favor other candidates.
