What I was getting at was the possibility of engineering a virus with symptoms that are more deadly for overweight people as a way of inflicting a higher death toll elsewhere than in China. I am aware that the obesity rate in China is rising, but I would be shocked if it was anywhere close to the United States.
That's a good point, but I think the obesity (which I think is actually classified as a co-morbidity) leads to a higher death toll rather than rate of infection.
Also, I'm not trying to say that they can wipe out obesity with this--just inflict a higher death rate on places with a higher obesity rates (and other health issues caused by lifestyle) while suffering less collateral damage.
They are safer because there aren't nearly as many obese people in China.
I don't see the connection with the outbreaks.
