You people think you can use a CNC machine to make a 90.00003 degree angle? Over ten feet that's an error of less than a micron. LOL. Talk to an actual mechanical engineer about tolerances before you come up with this nonsense.

I don't understand your thinking. This seems like an awesome experiment.

If each point was precisely measured and each point was exactly level on the topo, he could do this over 100 feet and would be proven wrong in his theory.

That guy's math is hilariously incorrect. There are so many things wrong with his example. First, the curvature of the Earth is not constant. We do not live on a perfect sphere. 2nd, the average rate of curvature is 7.98 inches per mile. No idea where he's getting 30-something inch discrepancy over two miles. If he said 16-18 inches, that would be more accurate.

If you look at his circle graph, you'll see point A is at about 12 o'clock and point B is close to 1 o'clock. At a circumference of 24,901 miles, if his experiment was around 2,000 miles long, that would be closer to the 10% or so he's representing on that circle. In reality, his point B would be somewhere closer to 12:00:00:02 o'clock.

This guy has a pretty interesting idea, but his math is so far off it's laughable.

May wish to check your math again

It’s parabolic, not linear

Per mile squared

Doesn’t need to be a perfect sphere. If there’s any curve at all it’ll show, and the suggestion was made to make them all over the place anyways

What’s to lose

Per mile squared is something like 64 inches per mile then. 172 over two miles. The curvature of the earth isn't 6 feet per mile, Jesus.

From someone standing on the north pole, what would the curvature measure a mile before the equator to the equator?

This is hilarious. Because this experiment WAS DONE in the 1800s and done better than what is proposed here. And both flat and round "earther's" got BTFO.

Would this work?

Seems like a solid plan to me.
