You should look into the book Gumption Island. It's an allegorical tale for Gibson Island in MD, where apparently much of the NWO-type stuff is planned out.
I bring it up because it's basically those ratios (from what I've seen).

I bring it up too because the dude that wrote the book taught at Friends, a Quaker school in Baltimore, that I applied to teach at before!
I just saw this article a couple of days ago, but I almost just want to get the book and read it on my own first.
Bukowski is interesting...I'm a big short story fan, but I honestly had never run across him.
I do like the "Terry Davis flair" bit. That's a guy I wish I could have talked to...I know all people are unique, but that guy was something else.
I'd recommend Gogol if you get the chance...good short story writer that also dealt with racial issues. Him and Steinbeck are great at simplicity and starkness.
Maybe I will write a book one day...we shall see... :)
