Hopefully you aren't conflating an exchange, a popular exchange at that, with the cryptocurrency itself.
There are plenty of issues with bitcoin, in terms of it not being anonymous, and payments able to be tracked.
But the concern shouldn't be with governments taking the controls of bitcoin and using bitcoin as their own, it will be the banning and outlawing of bitcoin, in favour of their own government backed, centrally controlled, cryptocurrency.
Bitcoin still has it's decentralisation going for it, even if in reality, the decentralisation is still heavily centralised in certain locations.
Like with any investment, or hedge, spreading your money is the wise decision.
Bah. Oh no, Coinbase is going mainstream, it must be bad now!
I think our reflexive distrust of authority on this board, along with rejection of consumerist values, means that we want to reject anything mainstream just for being mainstream. Just because something is mainstream, doesn't mean it's bad.
p.s.
When you're using wheelbarrows of your fiat current to buy your bread, you'll wish you had bought silver, gold, or cryptocurrencies. Don't cash out your 401k, but diversify is all anyone that isn't dead from the neck up is saying.
