Shills seem to have certain sites they monitor as well as certain people. They work in teams with the aid of bots. You will often notice that certain user names will post around the clock with writing styles and personalities that change as the day goes on. One shill will post under multiple usernames, sometimes reserving certain names for specific topics and boards. They often set downvote bots to target specific people. They will also target those users for other forms of harassment. Many times they will use multiple users names in their attacks.
I just today had a shill post the same crap under the same name in response to a link I had posted once before a few months ago. Apparently some attacks are triggered by URLs. I've had them respond similarly to certain pictures or text strings. As soon as Google picks it up they are on it. Sometimes sooner when I'm under a full time watch.
