It's a term used for things that look very close to human but aren't, like a 3d model of a human. The lizard brain can tell deep down it isn't real, just very close, thus the uncanny valley effect.
It's basically come about in the age of CGI and robots and such.
It's why pixar animation is amazing, sand, animals, water, but peole have anime style eyes or unrealistic features, head shapes body shapes. People get weirded out when it looks to real and isn't.
Androids, avatars, and animations aim for extreme realism but get caught in a disturbing chasm that has been dubbed the uncanny valley. They are extremely realistic and lifelike — but when we examine them, we see they are not quite human. When a robotic or animated depiction lies in this "valley," people tend to feel a sense of unease, strangeness, disgust, or creepiness.
The uncanny valley is a term used to describe the relationship between the human-like appearance of a robotic object and the emotional response it evokes. In this phenomenon, people feel a sense of unease or even revulsion in response to humanoid robots that are highly realistic.
You’ve probably experienced the feeling before — perhaps while watching a CGI animated movie or while playing a video game. The animated human might look almost real — but that slight chasm between looking “almost human” and “fully human” leaves you with a feeling of discomfort or even revulsion.
The phenomenon has implications for the field of robotics and artificial intelligence. Devices and online avatars that are made to help mimic the human touch may actually end up alienating people who are using such tools.
give me one of those realdolls and it's instant no-nut november for me. srsly. i know because I saw a thread with pics on 4chan. the thirst really must be unbearable for some folks.
seriously, I'm to the point where if someone tells me some breaking news story, i ask if they saw in on CNN, and if they did, i reflexively tell them its fake news.
The actor Chris Pine from Star Trek and Wonder Woman either got a lot of plastic surgery or he is some kind of non human replicant. His face is square in the uncanny valley territory. Same with Benedict Cumberbatch, these people are not celebrities because they are good looking or good actors.
They Live was a documentary
Never heard of this uncanny valley so this makes little sense to me.
Then educate yourself my man!

He does indeed look like a genetic experiment gone wrong these days.

Indeed, like those Final Fantasy movies disturbed a lot of people, I happen to like freaky shit though so---
Yeah. It was creepy at times. Thought it was real at first.
I guess we'll find out soon.

makes sense though.

I love that thread. But now I can't look at a photo of a face without being suspicious
Well, this thought will keep me up tonight.
