I already have a massive and still growing collection of scripts it has written me for doing various tasks. it's Python skills have rendered pretty much every obscure freeware app for any kind of bulk file manipulation completely obsolete.
need to convert an mp3? need to change the file paths in a folder full of shortcuts? need to combine 50 JPEGs into a single PDF?
forget Google and go straight to chat GPT to ask it to write Python for you.
so yeah that is one area where it's very useful... but the point still stands that it's not useful at all for doing research or asking questions you don't already know the answer to.
I love how you basically just restated my entire position and told me that my points make no sense.
Of course every question is going to be tailored around what it CAN'T do... in order to show the average person that what it can do isn't much of anything.
but I will add one major caveat... there is one thing it will be very good at and it's going to cause a lot of disruption. and that's writing computer code.
and the only reason it will be good at that is because computer code is just another type of language, which is the one and only thing it's good at, and there is an abundance of high quality reliable training data on programming languages.

Let's fact check it's answer.

- The first giraffe born at this zoo happened 1 year ago, not in 1994.
- It was the first giraffe born at this particular zoo, not the whole continent of Africa.
- I can't find any info on when the first giraffe in Africa was born, but I'm sure it wasn't 1994.
- I can find zero information on any giraffe named "Star".
- It changed the context of my question and gave me an answer about the first giraffe born in captivity in a zoo, even though that is not what I asked.
This is a great example of why relying on AI answers is bad.
It will give you wrong answers, but they will sound like correct answers. Bits of truth will be sprinkled in, along with heavy doses of straight up fiction.
This is bad enough for a source to put out bad info like this, but I think it becomes especially dangerous because idiots will grant more credibility to an AI answer than they would a reddit comment, when in reality the reddit comment is more likely to not be full of shit...

If there was something on that island they didn't want people seeing, they could simply not update the image and no-one would know. And it would draw far less attention to that island than removing it from the map all together.
But you know what does make sense? It could be what's known as a "fictitious entry" in order to serve as a copyright trap. And then it would make total sense to do it with some random uninhabited island no one will ever want to visit.
The idea is that if someone produces a new map during those years, and google thinks the creators just copied their data, all they need to do is check for Bouvet island and when it's not there in the other party's map, that is good evidence of copyright infringement they can use in court.
Not basing this assessment on anything but intuition... But the 2nd answer seems far more likely to me....
