With the gnostic "scriptures" , couldn't people read them, believe it and say they are gnostic? There are gnostic churches that have mass and sermons. It might not be a legitimate lineage to the original gnostics, but they use the name and scriptures.

Go to the classic Greek texts on critical thinking and logical fallacies, ignore the newer additions, their is only a dozen or so. A college indoctrinate I know said he was "taught" there are hundreds. I find the ancients had a clearer perspective then people today.
