Well, we have the single-industry example of video gaming. Data centers have made it impossible to purchase or upgrade a personal computer. The industry has offered the “solution” of cloud-based gaming, wherein you pay for eternity to access censored and controlled content that can be stolen from you at any time. And it uses the data centers that caused this problem in the first place.

I also think the data centers are energy suckers and we may actually see a future fighting for fresh water in America.
Good old communism, finally making everyone equal (in suffering). What was once the province of third world deserts is now a problem in the most fertile land on Earth.
Communism is getting an upgrade with the global surveillance state and digitally IDing who can go where and do what, heard about something like this in a big book too.
