I thought the "Lord" in Lord Mayor meant he had to be nobility to be eligible for election. Does this mean the king made that guy a Lord first?
It's a ceremonial title, to distinguish it from an executive mayor, who actually runs city government. A Lord Mayor chairs meetings and represents the city. Think King vs Prime Minister
