Bible is a difficult source to use, it's not logic based.
If we think, the stars and wandering stars move in a circle above us in a celestial day, they move quite a long distance at a high velocity, so it's unlikely the mass is substantial because it would take so much energy to move a giant rock or ball of gas that fast over such a distance.
Plasma makes sense. Its bright, it moves like excited energy when you zoom in, it can move through dense media without much friction, and there are probably some other reasons not related to "because god said so..."
