The flu virus is a master of evolution and adaptation. The vaccine is to prevent deeper illness if you happen to catch it, meaning a shorter transmission time. Coronaviruses that transmit the common cold is also a fast evolving virus, hence there is no cure, only preventatives and symptom management as there is with influenza.
