Childhood mortality cratered in the early 20th century, decades before the first vaccines were widely adopted.
It's a matter of proper waste disposal, non-starvation diet, and not inhaling coal dust 24/7.
That's why India, which actually has a higher vaccination rate than the US (for certain shots) still has almost 5x the infant mortality rate.
