I believe there is a simple solution that can be backed up with existing data.
Back in the 1500's, a map of Antarctica was made that is extremely close to what the land mass actually looks like. I believe evidence of the pole shift is being suppressed to keep the minions moving in their current lives without panic. I don't think it's anything more nefarious than that. That information itself would change a lot of people's behavior, so much that it would up end the current structure of the world.

I can also recommend reading Earth Changes and the Human-cosmic Connection by Pierre Lescaudron. The book premise is that this cycle is also influenced by human behavior.
I forgot who but someone on this board recommended it and it's very good.
