Do not forget that this website is hosted by Cloudflare as well.
This is a full-blown, no-way-out monopoly like Youtube.
There is a reason why most sites are now slower than usual and I found out that Cloudflare is it to blame.

What you described was a basic "insurance" extortion like what the mob was running in NYC and Chicago.
