There are problems with this interpretation though. Israel is Jacob's name. Jacob had 12 sons and one of the sons was called Judas. A few generations later Jesse had a son named David. It was prophesized the Messiah would come from the David's progeny and so He did in the person of Jesus Christ - the Son of God.

As you can see, you can't divorce Christ from the true jewish tradition, which is found in the Bible (as opposed to the post-Christian heresy known as Judaism). Christ, His apostles and the prophets were literally the sons of Israel. Now the Biblical Israel has nothing to do with the zionist idea of Israel as a state, just as today's jews are not the jews descendent from the 12 tribes. No, they are false jews (Rev. 2:9) and are Satan's spawn. The true Israel of God is the Church Christ established with His advent.
