I think you're on to something. Currently I see two possibilities. It is a psyop gone wrong or everything is going according to the plan.

First possibility is simpler. It started as a psyop, but somewhere along the way it went wrong and now they're trying to bury it and get done with it.

Second one though... I have no idea what would be the purpose. Could it be to finally reveal the truth that no government works for their people? To make mass dissatisfaction with their respective governements so enormous that they would cheer up tearing it all down and replacing with something else entirely. I mean, it's true that current governments are little more than bunch of criminals, but they might have something much worse in store for us. Like, total AI and tech industry dictatorship or something like that...

Another possibility is that they are playing same old good cop, bad cop game they're always playing. Primaries are planned to go to the Democrats and two years later US will get Democratic president who will continue to fuck everything up while whining how bad Trump was. Then, in another four years it'll be flipped once again and so on ad infinitum.
