For me it is excellent news. Chromium-based browsers will lose some users and opensource programmers will have more motivation to finally start think about developing independent browser without all that bloatware Chromium-based browsers and Firefox filled with to the top.
Now, all that highly skilled addon authors literally work for corporations for free. And creating an illusion that there is no any need for independent browser, because you could just install addons and get rid of annoyances. So users do not abandon all that bloatware and spyware covered with foam layer of addoms.
There is at least two independent browser projects who need a lot of skilled programmers like uBlockOrigin author to speed up development. So, detaching them from shitty corporate product is a good thing.
And you bet 99% of all Chronium based browsers will follow suit soon. Mark my words.
And the possibility of passing laws that make adblocking illegal is always here.
So far the Mozilla foundation is not (yet) doing similar moves, but it is also easily taken over and controlled.
That leaves us with true open source options, of which there are still plenty of options, although most of them based on Blink, WebKIt or Gecko.
