The current events over minerals is interesting because companies were fighting to get permits, and keep permits. The fake," green" movement shuts them down. They were told mining isn't happening in America. Mining jobs are variously educated, and good paying. I would think we would want the jobs. It's too bad about the land theft though.

Thats prolly the most likely reason. When shit is dry, it doesnt matter what sparks it, a arsonist, a lightning strike, a cigarette butt, someone's muffler.
Arsonists dont create the perfect conditions for a tinderbox. But then again that is also a natural part of the ecosystem of forests.
