There was a movement some years ago called "ban the box" that succeeded in some states to ban the "check here if you've ever been convicted of a felony" box on job applications.
The result was the people just didn't hire blacks as often (and the change was huge), because, considering probability statistics, blacks are more likely to be criminals.
