You think setting yourself on fire is reactionary? Punching someone in the face who surprises you is reactionary, dousing your self with accelerant and starting a fire is an intentional act.

Suicide, no matter how delayed, is reactionary.

Consider this --> if you ask two people a question and one answers in 5 seconds and the other answers in 10 minutes, neither leaves the room, what is the time line threshold you would say some thing is no longer reactionary?

Passion can be gauged differently bcz people are different. Ayh launch off the handle while ayh have a friend who stays composed but still says stupid fucking shit.

Suicide is always reactionary.

Do you consider the monk who set himself on fire suicidal? Where do you draw the line?

Thich Quang Duc was a Buddhist monk protesting in South Vietnam, when his image captivated the world. Malcolm Browne won the World Press Photo of the Year in 1963 photographing Duc committing an act of self-immolation, burning to death. Current research into mindfulness and meditation gives neuroscientists, scientists, and clinicians a glimpse into the physiology, structure and function of the brain of expert meditators such as Duc. A growing body of literature indicates that basic breathing techniques and meditation can alter cortical structures with very little training. Structural and functional MRI has revealed the anterior cingulate and insular cortex are altered in functioning due to meditation and mindfulness practice. Continued research into mindfulness and expert meditators should help us gain a greater understanding into how a monk like Duc was able to commit such a powerful behavioral act, becoming the monk on fire.

Ill give it to buddy, he wanted to make a statement, and he did. Whoever was there, whoever watches the video, his last statements will be what people remember. That qualifys as a good life in my book.

Trust me, im not shy about death and ive said a few times that if my quality of life were ruined, that I would self immolate in front of wcb. Its amazing to me that there have only been a few incidents in canada of people killing themselves at WCB, kinda surprising imo.

I am not suicidal, but I expect a certain quality of life and if I cant hit that, then I dont know if I would want to be here. Like say if I my kidney finally just goes and im stuck on dialysis for the rest of my life, or having liver failure, I dont want someone else's organ inside of me.

Even if all my problems right now stem from a overactive parathyroid, I dont trust these fucks to cut me open. Is that suicidal? lol? I feel like they will give me a heart attack as soon as they put me under gas. Fuck sakes my heart pounds for 30 minutes after a adrenaline surge in counter strike. Im still cardiac sensitized somehow, permanently is my guess.

Nah im just crazy right?

I will have to say, I havent seen the video, but from what I heard, there is alot of screaming. Nothing like the monk who just sat there as he experienced pain that most of us will never feel in this life.

Maybe he did give his life up for a stupid reason, but I have to respect what he did.

That's a disingenuous example especially considering it wasn't suicide as much as a statement using his life as the medium.

Suicide is always reactionary

That's your opinion and I disagree with it. Albert Camus said suicide is the only serious philosophical question.

Suicide is when you are unable to properly exert your inner frustrations. You are in a constant state of unrest. When some one talks you down from suicide, they convince you to "let it out". His immolation is no different.. he like all of us.. struggle with how to react and effectively refrain from what we truly want.. so it builds up until it explodes. He accumulated this.. and the decision was not made to be a statement as much as a resolution to his cage.

It was suicide. All suicides are selfish statements. An honest suicide is one who packs a few things and just leaves.. disappears.. goes and lives life until he/she just stops. All the rest are statements. "Suicide note"

Cmon man! You understand that's your subjective opinion right? That might be the truth to you but that doesn't make it true for anyone else. Who are you to assume his motivations or intentions?

Actually it is not my opinion alone. Many researchers have published papers and many psychologists have normalized recognition and treatment based on pacing ie not being reactionary. Who am ayh? Ayh have read the work and worse yet, ayh have wanted to kill my self.
