The reason this has the full-throated support of Democrats is because it is how they will convert the US into a one-party system, another Chinese "advantage." Essentially, their plan works like this:
Short-term strategy: Use the executive branch that they now control to ensure that the millions of new illegal immigrants will be able to permanently stay.
Mid-term strategy: Bring them to places where they can increase the number of electoral votes in blue states. They need not be citizens to count toward the population count and thus the number of electoral votes a state has.
Long-term strategy: Once they have voting rights, use economic incentives to bring enough of them into an important swing state to turn it blue. (This assumes they vote for the political party that was kind enough to welcome them into the country and not the one they will be made to perceive supports policies that are"cruel" to them.)
This will work because of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. If you have not heard of this, you must ask yourself why the news media has not informed you of it. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among a group of (currently) 16 U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential ticket wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. These jurisdictions have 205 electoral votes, which is 38% of the Electoral College and 76% of the 270 votes needed to give the compact legal force.
