When I was 18 I was shocked to learn that destruction of evidence by prosecutors didn't end in the immediate dismissal of the defendant and charges for the prosecutor/police.
Not because I was surprised that there was corruption, but because I couldn't imagine how anyone could think the system held any legitimacy without such a rule.
