It's funny they mention the underground transportation network for Chinese nationals. I actually found a midnight bus that left from a secluded pharmacy parking lot in my hometown headed to New York City. The only way to find out about it was by word of mouth in the immigrant community.
I got on the bus to check it out. It was packed with about 100% Asian people.
I did some digging and found out that the way it works is once a enough money can be raised, they use it to pay people smugglers (snakeheads) to get someone into the United States who then must work illegally to pay off the debt. Once that's paid, then the NEXT person (usually from the same family) gets smuggled over to once again work off the debt. What often happens is that the worker finds a higher-paying job in a bigger city, and these secret "Chinese busses" are the cheapest way to get there.
