I have seen a dog die when we put her to sleep after owning her adorable pit bull self for almost fifteen years. I've also seen the love of my roommate at the time's life die right in front of him, and I have to say that the "soul leaving the eyes" thing happened with both of those sets of eyes, so I'm not so sure where other conscious beings are, only that I hope to be one day.
