I'd be willing to bet Washington was trash. This letter is ALWAYS trotted out as the scapegoat for Washington...I mean, why would Washington lie?

It's not like he has secrets to keep because he...is a Mason.

The never telling a lie thing is early virtue-signaling. These dudes are taught to be pristine in public life (and many of them couldn't even do that).
