If you execute unknown commands buried inside a package without inspecting it with root equivalent permissions your eventually.gonna get fucked... doesn't matter what OS it is...
Centralizing won't help if the PTB infiltrate the package system either..
I still think ubuntu is the best choice hands down for beginners. All these other flavors have value, but for beginners it's about the availability of online resources to assist those who have trouble getting the confidence to push forward with Linux. Ubuntu hands down has more online resources for helping newbies get through the tech hurtles..

Or would you suggest Mint or the latest new Ubuntu/Debian?
