For some, hatred has been set forth to be a virtue, and they are passionate to signal their virtue to others. Definitely a bad combination.
On the flip side (and there is always a flip side, isn't there?), the hatred only rarely spills over into action because their reward comes from signalling, not acting. They do not possess the courage of their convictions because they have no true convictions. Thus, they have no stomach for it any time it's coming the other way.
