When NAFTA was passed, it opened up the Mexican market to US agribusiness. It flooded their marketplace with cheap food. Small Mexican farmers, who had a workable business model found themselves out of work. The "wink, wink, nudge nudge" of NAFTA was that the US would allow for the trickle, then flood, of illegals into the US as a consequence.
It's worked out well for the elites. I wonder why the change from the Mexican side.
