There are a lot of people that question why Trump did not fight the stolen election even harder in 2020 when he was still President. There's actually quite a lot to say about that particular period of time, but it does seem to appear on the surface that he rolled over at the end.
(As an aside, many conclude from this that he was "controlled opposition" all along. Many of these are shills, of course, but importantly many others are conspiracy theorists that are driven not by a search for the truth through independent research, but a desire for psychological comfort by being "smart" and being "right all along". It's regrettable to see capable people that are prisoners of such a level of consciousness. And no, they cannot see this at work in themselves any more than they can see the back of their heads.)
My whole point here, though, is that Trump leaving the presidency is not quite the mistake some seem certain that it was. If we look back on the last two and a half years, the Deep State/NWO/Establishment/Elites have done far, far more damage to themselves than Trump was ever able to accomplish fighting more directly.
The main strength of the damage is in the consciousness of the people. They may not know have direct awareness of it, but they're getting a good idea that things are fundamentally wrong, and a good idea who is responsible. If we reflect deeply, those changes always were and are where changes really needed to take place.
So for all those who are certain there is no plan and if there is it's not working, well, I do not share that judgement.

Agree on your other point: most of their control supremacy is illusory, based on subterfuge and mind games - it is not complete or total and never can be.
However , even if we they totally failed and were defeated , most people would NOT notice any changes as most people have fully internalised the control mechanisms within themselves and would not claim their freedom even if it was obviously pointed out to them .
