WRT the vaccine being some kind of "water", placebos are always used since vaccines are mostly distributed under EUA/Clinical research (as opposed to commercial approval). Some will get placebo, some will get the treatment.
The mosquito releases happened in 2021-2022. If their mosquitos were carriers of malaria, we'd be seeing a shitload more malaria cases (if we're trusting the CDC which reported the first cases in the first place).
