Am I the only one who thinks this whole issue is retarded?
Kids nowadays aren’t even reading books. Let alone browsing through their shitty school libraries for something with porn or sex positions in it. Or some tranny book or whatever it is people are freaking about.
Kids can go on their smart phone or computer and find whatever they want.
Anyone trying to ban books is seriously misguided. I seriously don’t understand how this is even an issue.
Anyone else think it’s weird that people get worked up over that stuff? If it’s not part of the curriculum it’s not like kids are even going to read it.
If your kid goes and checks out one of these books and doesn’t have an assignment… well congratulations… your kid reads independently and is probably a fuckton smarter than his braindead tiktok peers.
They have library day where they pick out a book to check out. So yes they are exposed to what is in the library. On top of that it is a huge tell of who is running the library and school board and whoever else is in charge of book selection. It’s definitely a clue to what else is being shoved down their thoughts in the school outside of these books.
*however the concern perhaps should be with the tablets and should also focus on the return to a more physical in person off of the screen. Tablets should not link to PBS, you tube or the internet imo. At the very least for younger students. I was told that high school students can’t even write or spell due to so much tablet use... so crazy. We def need to go back to pen and paper.
The kids aren’t reading those books.
They read what they need to do the assignment.
Or they’ll look up cliff notes or something similar.
Don’t be the naive parent.
That’s not true. I have kids. They pick out books to read weekly and bring them home. Has nothing to do with school assignments.
And I’m sure it’s not because you’re forcing them to do this.
You honestly sound like a naive parent to me. Just my opinion.
Reading assignments is one thing. Are they going on their own and checking out books for fun from their schools library?
I highly doubt that.
Where I am, the kids go to the library once a week at their school and check out a book they find there, yes. This is normal. This was done when I was a kid and it is done at every school I know of. I am surprised that there are schools where they do not do this. If they don't do this, why even have a school library?
