I wish I had some visibility into the mindset of the "average" German. Do they really not get that peace and good times were ahead working with the Russians?

Now that may have been a little subtle since it had been developing over a number of years, but how could they possibly miss their big "ally", the United States of Freedom, committing industrial terrorism and wrecking their economy?

It's hard for me to believe, but sometimes I suspect that the entire nation is so cucked by extreme levels of WW2 guilt that they actually think, "Oh vell, ve got it comink!"
