I don't think "the west" (a misnomer, but let's use it) is oblivious to the fact of the drawdown of the stock, or mincemeating 500 000 Ukrainians.
It's part of the plan, just step 2 in the operation.
Remember, they always plan 5 steps ahead (minimum) with branching off points, alt-scenarios, contingencies and sensitivity analyses to different options.
While most are still reacting to step 1, they have already planned out 5 steps and are preparings steps 2-5.
