A nation of irrelevant identity wishes to fire an icbm into America. Worried of automatically deployed air defense, they hire a friend to test. Is the balloon blown up immediately? What type of missile or flak is used to intercept? What size radar signature illicits a response? The balloon checks for radar locks, to see the source of our detection capabilities. Taking tally of where our defenses are.
Why did the US allow the balloon to fully cross the nation? A) maintains obscurity about the quickness of reflexive response, B) allows for decoy radar nests to deploy, feeding the spy misinformation.
Or maybe Biden sold the US to China and they are gathering some promised intel..
Edit: oh no, downvote the guy who thinks for himself for two seconds. Just be sure not to debate or give a reason for it. Just anonymous downvotes.
Why would China be interested in any sort of old school warfare when their 5th gen warfare had been far more effective? The 20 million it took to build that satellite balloon could have been spent on paying off our politicians or military contractors for far more gain than a stupid balloon can get. This is clearly a cover story, but for what is the question? Personally I think they are trying to hide the fact orbiting Satellites don't exist.
Also why did they just change the wiki of the F22 from a ceiling height of 65000ft to 50000ft? The video gives a pretty good reason.
The public was spotting and recording the balloon anyway, they had to act and form our perception. We all have an idea of what satellites supposedly look like from cgi images and movies. So when people saw what looks like s satellite hanging from a balloon they had to come up with a stupid Chinese cover story. In addition people are more likely to trust their government if they see external threats like China or Russia.
The public won't ever doubt satellites because of a balloon. Still doesn't explain why the media chose to draw even more attention to it, either. They let things die when they don't like it.
If satellites are balloons, these should be spotted way more frequently.
One interpretation:

By drawing your attention to what you're implying satellites actually are? Doesn't make sense
