I'm sure for someone like him it's hard to be free-spirited about comedy.
Disgusting is relative...none of us are "clean", really. But I'll give you an example of karma in that regard...
My mom has a friend that passed away recently, and he was a short Italian guy that ran a tiny independent press called Icarus Books. I even have one book from it called At Home in the Universe, by I think a Romanian or at least Eastern European guy about moving to America and how the search for a place to "be" became a spiritual search as well. Pretty good.
Anyhow, I visited this guy's house a couple of times, and I was struck by how thick his ear hair was. Just two big tufts poking out his earholes. Not that I cared, but obviously it's kinda funny.
Fast forward ten years, I have way worse ear hair that grows all over my ears. If I don't account for them, I look like a gnome. Plus my eyebrows now can easily match or exceed Scorsese's. It'd actually be hilarious to let them all go and see how silly it gets.
You get what I'm saying though.
Thanks LOL...
So the dude that wrote that book was Oscar E. Bonny. Just grabbed it.
The subtitle for the book is "From the Siberian Steppes to Baltimore".
Dude's entire village was exiled to Siberia in 1915 (interesting timing Bolshevik-wise) because they were German.
Much of it is similar to Ivan Gogol, who had some pretty grim short stories, like a Russian Steinbeck.
I just read a short passage at random...he excoriates preachers for sending the wrong message. One had a sermon based on Elijah and the 450 Baal worshipers, and how Elijah slaughtered them, and the preacher considered it a "great victory for God". Bonny balked at that, calling Elijah a Jewish fanatic who killed 450 natives who had probably grown up in the cult and knew nothing else in life.
Sometimes it not very clear in the Bible who is in the wrong or the right. Like the Pharoah enslaving the Jews. Rereading how he treated them is interesting. He calls them out as liars a few times. The Jews were the ones making sacrifices in the desert.
Perhaps the Jews are the "chosen people" because they are quickest to stray from the flock LOL. Gotta keep an eye on 'em. ;)
