I've started to get the French language equivalent junk emails of the the Nigerian doctor scam or the French tax authorities want to talk to me.
The only French I read is on Duolingo, the language learning app. I also study Italian and Latin on there, but not as much. And I use the free version of their app, because they are woke as fuck, so they don't have my email or identity information from me paying for anything. They have my usage data I don't know how they connect it to my email.
I don't go to French websites, or watch YouTube videos in French, or go to any website at all where French is used. I use the translate app on my Apple once every two weeks or so to check a Duolingo translation. The only French I speak is the 10 minutes a day I use the Duolingo app.
Either my phone is listening to me speak French, or my somehow Duolingo sold my usage data to spammers. Could be something else? Thoughts?
We've tested this before... at the dinner table with you phones all there repeatedly say something out t of the norm for your family... we did it with "pool supplies" "pool maintenance" within a day we all had adds popup for those two things....
Like.. hey how's was your day with pool maintenance? I'd like to do more pool maintenance so need pool supplies...
Gonna try that.
100% concur. Speaking of pools, about four years ago when my friend was down visiting, we were in the pool drinking beers and this topic came up, so we decided to try it out, so we both started saying "my back hurts" and talking about "back pain" for a minute or so. Later that night one of us got back pain ads on the YouTube app, and the other did a day or so later (don't remember who was first).
My Apple ID is tied to a Yahoo email, but I'm getting the emails on a Hotmail account. I have privacy settings set to about as high as you can, but I do give Duolingo access to my microphone.
But based on your advice, I may have found the culprit, in that apparently I gave speech recognition analytics permission to Duolingo by default when I downloaded the app.
You silly English kniggit, you are getting what you deserve for using our Internet. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
Most pages can read off your (browser used) clipboard and tons of other browser used data (forms, etc) with javascript, and just rip that data invisibly and download it and then sell it.
And yes, most "apps" and "services" that are "free", sell all your stuff that you use when you sign up, to use their "free" services.
phone.
