All these years "wear sunscreen, UV light causes mutations and cancer," and yet women thought the same light was totally safe when using in their vain habit?
Sun screen causes cancer too.....probs more than the "radiation" ever will. Infact I highly suspect the Sun gives cancer at all. And instead the "skin cancer" is a symptom of something else underlying inside the body. Poor lifestyle, diet, shit like this.
don't know if there's formal studies, but it oughta be pretty easy to compare rates of skin cancer between different jobs in the trades. if the sun is causing skin cancer, then roofers and concrete/cement guys should be at higher risk than, say, drywallers and flooring guys.
Funny ... my grandparents and most of my close family worked all day in the sun in the fields ... NEVER USED ANY STUPID sun screen ... no one ... literally NO ONE IN THE WHOLE FUCKING VILLAGE EVER GOT SKIN CANCER !
"The cumulative evidence before the 1980s showed a relatively strong positive association between melanoma and sunscreen use (cumulative OR: 2.35; 95% CI: 1.66-3.33). The strength of the association between risk of skin cancer and sunscreen use has constantly decreased since the early 1980s, and the association was no longer statistically significant from the early 1990s. While the current evidence suggests no increased risk of skin cancer related to sunscreen use, this systematic review does not confirm the expected protective benefits of sunscreen against skin cancer in the general population."
never wear sunglasses (unless you are an alpinist or hardcore open-seafarer), because that disrupts your eye->melanin signaling
stop eating seeds, grains, nuts, seed oils (excess OMEGA-6 cause inflammation and make you more likely to get a sunburn -> skin damage -> skin cancer risk)
moderate sun exposure
make sure you get enough astaxanthin, bio-available copper, beta-carotene and omega-3 oils to protect your skin
This way sun is not only not risky, but healthy (NO synthesis, glycocalyx health, active vitamin D in plasma, melatonin secretion, proper circadian entrainment, etc).
So.... we're surprised because...?

Good idea. It would control for a lot of confounding variables elegantly.
