People really are dumb. What could possibly do wrong voluntarily (even going so far as to pay) to give away their personal genetic information?

Exactly—they used a family member’s DNA, in a not-so-very-public database.
Their Privacy Policy literally spells out that they will share your info with Law Enforcement if presented with a warrant.
How anyone can claim to be surprised is beyond me.
