Formaldehyde forming as a metabolite is a bit of a limited hangout.

One reason why aspartame was first denied as a sweetener for drinks is because it is unstable in liquid form.

Aspartame in liquids starts breaking down into formaldehyde around 80f. How hot do you think a trailer gets in the sun?
