Interestingly, the karate reference isn't really all in jest. I was recently listening to an old podcast (which I believe was this one: The Conspiracy Farm Ep. 151 Rich Graham which had some bearing.
Graham is a former special forces operator with an interest in MMA-type fighting and who now does training, including for LEOs. He mentioned that most get just 4-5 hours of hand-to-hand training per year.
That being the case, they don't know to handle themselves and have no confidence to go "hands on", so they just resort to shooting or tasering people.
Everyone can come to their own conclusions as to whether this was part of the cause, and also what the solution may be.

We have to many small female cops that would get their ass whooped if they had to engage in any melee combat.
