The Cabal has judged that they have now lost control of China. They expect that Xi will begin to move against them both domestically and internationally. Why not throw some of the baggage off the back of the train if it can drum up any kind of anti-Xi sentiment? Easy enough to replace later.
The telling sign to look for is that when politicians and the mainstream media comment on this and similar situations, it will be based on the unstated premise that Xi personally ordered it or something. The same technique was used in the US against Donald Trump, when any wrongdoing by the United States came to light.
