I never got into heavy metal because it sounded too satanic and inspired by negative feelings such as loneliness, outcasting, anti-social behavior. I couldn't relate. I've been in clubs where heavy metal bands came in and the mosh pits were fucking intense. I mean guys were straight up kicking and punching people inside mosh pits and enjoying it. Boot boys. They seemed to be releasing some sort of pent up rage. Also, some of the electric guitar riffs are gnarly. It's a genre worth getting into if you like the sound of thrashing guitar riffs, muff guitar pedals, custom drum sets, etc.
I used to hate the big hair band rock n roll of the 1980's but now I like an occassional Judas Priest or Motlet Crue. Actually, I think Dokken is my favorite. I like DIO, Mr. Big, even bon jovi.
It'd be cool if people got rid of the electronic synths and drum machines and returned to old school garage bands. Eventually, I think there will be a resurgence of these organic bands. I see guitars and drums selling on craigslist for bargain prices, while electronic synthesizers and electronic drum machines are insanely overpriced.
That's early 90s which was when heavy metal was dying out and grunge was taking over.
I like the early 80's Judas Priest such as the Screaming for Vengeance album. Songs like You've Got Another Thing Coming and Heading Out To The Highway.

Those bands never went away, they just aren't mainstream. Probably never will be again

Some consider the hair band era cheesy but the guitar riffs are eternal.
