Even when 25% of the populace had died from the Black Death, things bounced back right away. For many of the lower classes, the survivors at least, things got better very fast as their labor was suddenly much more valuable.
So, I don't see collapse coming from that angle. Maybe a dollar collapse after the US defaults, but than we are talking a Great Depression scenario.
